Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a modern Gulf federation rather than an island, with Dubai offering extensive opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation and events. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international population; respectful dress and behavior, particularly during Ramadan, are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, desert excursions, shopping, dining and a lively social scene, although summer temperatures are extremely high. Employers normally arrange an employment residence visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID after hiring. Many hospitality packages include accommodation or an allowance, meals, transport, medical insurance and annual airfare, but terms should be checked carefully. Candidates should budget for deposits, documentation and initial living costs, and should never work on a tourist visa. Dubai has excellent transport and services, though rent can be expensive without employer support.
