Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in hospitality, particularly in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, resort regions and airport operations. Commis chefs can find work in hotels, restaurants, catering companies, clubs and large venues, with better prospects for applicants holding cookery qualifications and food-safety training. Australian workplace culture is generally practical, team-oriented and respectful of punctuality, safety and work-life balance. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to relaxed coastal communities, with warm weather, outdoor activities and high living costs in major centres. International applicants need the correct visa: options may include a Working Holiday visa, student visa with work limits, employer-sponsored visas or skilled pathways, depending on eligibility. Brisbane has good public transport and a subtropical climate, but rental prices and airport commuting should be considered. Arrange accommodation, tax-file registration, banking, health cover and any required airport security clearance before starting work.
