Destination Guide

The Philippines offers hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, business-process outsourcing and healthcare opportunities, especially in Metro Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan and Davao. Filipino culture is generally friendly, family-oriented and service-minded, with English widely used at work. Life in Makati provides excellent restaurants, shopping, nightlife and career access, although traffic, humidity and housing costs can be challenging. Cebu and resort islands offer a more relaxed lifestyle but may have fewer specialized jobs. The country’s major regions include Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, each with distinct food, languages and attractions. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Alien Employment Permit and a 9(g) pre-arranged employment visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Applicants should confirm current immigration rules, contract benefits, accommodation, medical coverage and relocation costs before accepting an offer.
