Destination Guide

Ireland offers opportunities across hospitality, technology, healthcare, construction, finance, retail and professional services, with Dublin providing the largest concentration of international employers. Irish culture is friendly and social, with strong traditions of music, sport, pubs and community life. The lifestyle combines lively cities with easy access to countryside, beaches and historic towns, although Dublin accommodation can be expensive and competitive. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals can generally live and work without a visa. Non-EEA applicants usually need an employment permit and, where applicable, an entry visa before relocating; eligibility depends on nationality, occupation and salary. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Personal Public Service number, a bank account and appropriate tax registration. Public transport is strongest in Dublin and other major cities, while a car is useful in rural areas. Weather is mild but changeable, so waterproof clothing is practical.
