Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but Dubai offers a highly international lifestyle with strong opportunities in luxury hotels, tourism, restaurants, retail, aviation and events. The culture blends Emirati traditions with communities from around the world; modest dress and respectful behaviour are valued, particularly during Ramadan. Dubai provides excellent restaurants, beaches, shopping, nightlife, public transport and year-round sunshine, although summers are extremely hot. Most expatriates work under an employer-sponsored residence visa, commonly including medical checks, Emirates ID processing and work-permit arrangements. Some employers provide accommodation, transport, meals, insurance or annual flights, but packages vary and should be confirmed in writing. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport and health-related costs. English is widely used, while Arabic knowledge is an advantage.
