Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of travel, aviation, tourism and corporate opportunities. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international lifestyle; modest dress and respect for local customs are important. Residents enjoy modern infrastructure, beaches, shopping, restaurants and extensive expatriate communities, although housing and schooling can be expensive. Most foreign employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas, usually arranged after accepting an offer and completing medical and identity checks. Relocating workers should budget for accommodation deposits, transport, health insurance and document attestation. English is widely used in workplaces, while Arabic is the official language. The climate is hot for much of the year, with mild winters. Employment contracts, probation terms and benefits should be reviewed carefully before relocation.
