The UAE is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the widest range of professional opportunities. Demand is strong in aviation, travel, tourism, technology, finance, engineering, healthcare and hospitality. The culture combines modern international lifestyles with Arabic and Islamic traditions; modest dress and respectful behaviour are expected, particularly in public and religious settings. Residents enjoy warm weather, beaches, shopping, restaurants and extensive leisure facilities, although summers are extremely hot. Most expatriates relocate to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah and rent apartments in established communities. Employers usually arrange an employment residence visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID process. Dependants may be sponsored if salary and housing conditions meet requirements. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, flights, probation terms and visa sponsorship in the written employment offer.
