Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, business services and education, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island living in Langkawi, Penang or parts of Sabah provides beaches, outdoor activities, diverse food and a relaxed lifestyle, although transport, healthcare and housing costs vary by location. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences reflected in festivals, languages and cuisine. English is widely used in business and tourism, while Malay is the national language. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on the role, salary, qualifications and immigration rules. Relocating workers should confirm contract benefits, accommodation, insurance, tax obligations and dependent arrangements before arrival. Malaysia has a tropical climate, so prepare for heat, humidity and heavy seasonal rainfall.
