Destination Guide

The Philippines offers hospitality, tourism, business-process outsourcing, healthcare, education and retail opportunities, with major employment centers in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Davao and resort islands such as Boracay and Palawan. Filipino culture is friendly, family-oriented and strongly influenced by Spanish, American and Asian traditions. English is widely used, especially in hotels and professional workplaces. Lifestyle varies from fast-paced urban living to relaxed coastal communities, with affordable local food, beaches and a strong social culture. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate work visa or permit arranged with employer support; tourists should not work while visiting. Relocating usually involves securing a job offer, checking visa requirements, arranging accommodation and budgeting for transport and healthcare. Costs are highest in Manila and popular resort areas. The country has a tropical climate, so newcomers should prepare for heat, humidity, monsoon rains and occasional typhoons.
