Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination with excellent opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, finance, technology, retail and professional services. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, temples and a famous food scene. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with efficient trains, ferries and buses, although housing can be expensive and space limited. Popular areas for workers include Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, while nearby islands such as Lantau offer a quieter lifestyle. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; the company normally supports the application, and eligibility depends on qualifications, experience and salary. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking and tax registration. English is widely used in business, but Cantonese or Mandarin skills are valuable. Hong Kong is well connected internationally and offers diverse dining, hiking, beaches and cultural activities.
