Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a busy coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent transport and abundant hospitality, retail, finance, technology and education jobs. Cantonese is the main local language, while English is widely used in business and hotels; Mandarin is also valuable. Life is energetic and convenient, with efficient MTR trains, diverse restaurants, hiking trails, beaches and a vibrant cultural scene. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share apartments or live in areas connected by public transport. Overseas employees normally require an employer-sponsored employment visa under Hong Kong’s General Employment Policy and must obtain approval before starting work. Employers commonly provide guidance with documentation, but applicants should confirm eligibility, salary and sponsorship directly. Bring educational and employment records, budget carefully for deposits and arrange accommodation before arrival.
