Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, education and professional services, with additional roles in communications, marketing and international business. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; respect, efficiency and professional networking are important. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining, shopping, hiking and beaches, although housing can be expensive and space is limited. Hong Kong is not usually described as an island destination, but Hong Kong Island, Lantau and many smaller islands form part of the territory. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer, commonly through the General Employment Policy, and must meet qualifications and salary requirements. Employers often assist with sponsorship and relocation guidance. Applicants should budget for rent, deposits, medical coverage, transport and schooling if relocating with family.
