Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. Its population is highly multicultural, and English is widely used at work, alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient, safe and well connected through an efficient public transport network. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts, so many workers choose shared apartments or locations close to MRT lines. The climate is hot, humid and tropical throughout the year, with frequent rain. International employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and experience, with the Employment Pass and S Pass being common options. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, food, insurance and any relocation costs before accepting an offer.
