Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, events, education, technology and retail. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak, while Kuala Lumpur and Johor provide the broadest professional employment markets. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and hotels. Lifestyle costs are moderate outside central Kuala Lumpur; island living is relaxed but can be seasonal and more expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through the company and Malaysian authorities before starting work. A valid passport, employment contract, qualifications and medical or immigration documentation may be required. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking and transport in advance. Malaysia’s warm tropical climate, varied food and welcoming communities make it attractive for international hospitality professionals.
