Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, retail, technology, finance and healthcare. Culinary professionals can find work in luxury hotels, independent restaurants, resorts, clubs and large food-service groups, although competition is considerable. The culture is multicultural and generally safe, orderly and respectful, with English widely used at work. Public transport is excellent, and daily life is convenient, but housing and dining in central areas can be expensive. The climate is hot, humid and rainy throughout the year. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for a valid work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary, occupation and eligibility rules. Employers usually handle the application, and approval is not guaranteed. Candidates should confirm accommodation, medical benefits, working hours, overtime, leave and pass arrangements before accepting an offer. Singapore is well connected internationally and offers a lively lifestyle despite its small size.
