Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island locations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed lifestyle, warm weather, beaches, outdoor activities and strong tourism demand, though housing and imported goods can cost more in resort areas. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality, while Malay is the national language. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and approval must be obtained before starting work. Employers usually handle much of the application process. Candidates should verify accommodation, transport, medical coverage, working hours and visa conditions before relocating. Malaysia generally offers affordable food and everyday living compared with many international destinations.
