Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is generally safe and efficient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, parks and well-developed healthcare services. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so newcomers often consider shared accommodation or locations close to MRT lines. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass; an Employment Pass or S Pass may be relevant depending on qualifications, salary and current government criteria. Employers usually manage the application process. Candidates should confirm pass eligibility, medical requirements, taxes, insurance, accommodation and relocation costs before accepting an offer. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so suitable clothing and air-conditioned living arrangements are useful.
