Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, aviation, retail, technology and professional services. Popular locations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other coastal or island destinations. Workplace culture is generally multicultural, respectful and relationship-focused; English is widely used in hospitality, while Malay and other languages are valuable. Lifestyle ranges from busy city living to relaxed beach or island communities, with generally affordable food, transport and accommodation outside prime areas. Foreign nationals normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer, and should secure approval before starting work. Requirements vary by nationality, salary and position, so immigration guidance should be checked with the company or Malaysian authorities. Relocating employees should budget for deposits, medical checks, insurance and local transport. Malaysia’s warm climate, diverse cuisine and strong tourism industry make it attractive for hospitality professionals.
