Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than a single island, with major employment hubs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. Hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, construction, healthcare, technology and professional services offer regular opportunities. UAE culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population; respectful dress and behavior are expected, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle ranges from modern city living and shopping to beaches, desert activities and cultural attractions. Most expatriates require employer sponsorship, a work permit and a residence visa, with medical testing and Emirates ID registration normally included in the process. UAE nationals may benefit from Emiratisation initiatives such as this program. Relocation costs, accommodation, transport, insurance and annual flights vary by employer. The climate is very hot in summer, while winters are generally warm and comfortable. Candidates should verify visa terms, benefits and contract conditions before accepting an offer.
