Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance and tourism. The culture is multicultural, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle is convenient and safe, supported by excellent public transport, shopping malls, hawker centres, parks and waterfront areas. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, so many workers share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Foreign employees generally need a valid work pass arranged by their employer, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications and salary. Applicants should confirm eligibility before relocating. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport, healthcare and daily living costs.
