Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities for chefs across Bali, Java, Lombok and other resort destinations, particularly in luxury hotels, villas, restaurants and tourism developments. Bali is the most international and lifestyle-oriented option, with strong hospitality demand, vibrant food culture and established expatriate communities. Jakarta provides more corporate and urban opportunities, while Lombok and smaller islands offer a quieter resort lifestyle. Local culture values respect, community, modesty and religious awareness; Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, although Bali is predominantly Hindu. Living costs vary considerably, with tourist areas generally more expensive. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and limited-stay visa, commonly arranged by the hiring company. Applicants should not work on a tourist visa and should verify current immigration, tax and health requirements before relocating. Housing, transport and flights should be clarified in the employment contract.
