Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, technology and finance. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and multicultural, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, beaches and green spaces. Living costs can be high, especially rent, so shared accommodation is common for hospitality workers. Employment normally requires a valid work pass arranged by the employer. Service and lower-skilled roles may use a Work Permit or S Pass, subject to current salary, qualification and quota rules; approval is not automatic. Applicants should verify the offer, accommodation, deductions and pass details before travelling. Singapore has a tropical climate, and employees should expect humidity, shift work, weekends and public-holiday duties in hospitality.
