Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, aviation, technology and finance. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient and safe, supported by excellent public transport, reliable healthcare, shopping and diverse dining. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, so many workers share apartments or live farther from work. A work permit or employment pass is normally required before starting employment; the employer usually sponsors the application, with eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and nationality. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits and everyday expenses, and confirm whether meals, accommodation, medical coverage or service charge are included in the offer. Singapore's tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so breathable clothing and adaptability are important.
