Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with major employment opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, logistics, healthcare, and professional services. Although best known as a city and territory rather than a single island, it includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and numerous outlying islands. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; residents enjoy excellent dining, festivals, shopping, hiking, beaches, and efficient public transport. Housing is expensive, particularly near Central and popular districts, so many workers share apartments or live farther from work. Foreign professionals generally require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, experience, salary, and the role's relevance to the local market. New arrivals should budget for rent deposits, health insurance, transport, and visa documentation. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and luxury hospitality.
