Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, events and luxury hospitality, with additional work in finance, technology, retail and logistics. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; dining, festivals, family values and respect for seniority are important. The lifestyle is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, hiking trails and nearby beaches, although accommodation can be expensive. Hong Kong is geographically made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, along with smaller islands. Foreign professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by an approved employer, commonly through the General Employment Policy, while eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and a confirmed job offer. Employers may assist with documentation and relocation, but candidates should budget for deposits, housing, medical checks and initial living costs. Learn basic Cantonese etiquette, while English is widely used in business and hotels.
