Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, finance, shared services, technology, healthcare, education and tourism, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and the Perhentian Islands provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, water activities and strong tourism employment, although salaries and career progression may be better in major cities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in business and hotels. Living costs vary, with resort islands often charging more for accommodation and transport. Foreign employees generally need an approved employment pass sponsored by the employer before starting work. The company normally assists with immigration documentation, but requirements depend on nationality and salary. Candidates should confirm housing, medical coverage, transport, taxes and work-permit arrangements before relocating.
