Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah, with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, construction, healthcare, retail, and technology. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage, and a highly international population. Respectful dress, punctuality, and awareness of local customs are important, particularly during Ramadan. Lifestyle ranges from modern city living and shopping to beaches, desert activities, and cultural attractions. Most expatriate employees require an employer-sponsored residence visa, work permit, medical examination, and Emirates ID; UAE nationals generally follow different employment arrangements. Employers may provide accommodation, transport, insurance, flights, or relocation assistance, but these benefits should be confirmed in writing. Living costs vary considerably, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi usually more expensive than other emirates. English is widely used in workplaces, while Arabic is the official language.
