Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in legal services, finance, technology, hospitality, property, logistics and regional corporate headquarters. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international business practices, efficient public services and a fast-paced working style. Living costs, especially rent, are high, but public transport is excellent and the city provides outstanding restaurants, healthcare, shopping, hiking and access to beaches and surrounding islands. Most professional expatriates require an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants generally need a confirmed job, suitable qualifications and proof that the role cannot easily be filled locally. Dependants may usually apply for accompanying visas. New arrivals should arrange housing, a Hong Kong Identity Card, banking, medical coverage and tax registration. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and professional workplaces. Hong Kong is compact, safe and well connected to the wider Greater Bay Area.
