Destination Guide

Indonesia is an extensive archipelago with varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail and business services. Bali is especially popular for hospitality work and offers beaches, an international community and a relaxed lifestyle, though housing and traffic can be challenging. Jakarta, on Java, provides more corporate and luxury-hotel opportunities with a faster urban lifestyle. Lombok, Batam and other resort destinations may offer quieter surroundings and growing tourism employment. Indonesian culture generally values respect, cooperation, family, modesty and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is helpful. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa before starting employment, and must not work on a tourist visa. Employers often assist with immigration, accommodation, meals and relocation details, but applicants should confirm salary, benefits, transport, medical cover and visa responsibility in writing.
