Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, technology, shared services, finance, tourism and retail, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and Langkawi. For an island lifestyle, Langkawi provides beaches, outdoor activities and a relaxed international community, while Penang combines coastal living with a lively food, arts and heritage scene. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business and hospitality. Living costs vary, with accommodation and transport generally more affordable outside central Kuala Lumpur. Employees normally need a suitable employment pass sponsored by the hiring company; expatriates should not begin work before approval and should verify current requirements with Malaysian immigration authorities. Relocation commonly involves arranging accommodation, medical checks, banking, insurance and transport. Tropical weather, public holidays and local workplace etiquette should be considered before moving.
