Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a fast-paced international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with many outlying islands nearby. Hospitality, retail, finance, technology, aviation and professional services offer substantial employment opportunities, while luxury hotels provide roles for people with international experience. Cantonese is the main local language, but English is widely used in business and hotels. The lifestyle combines dense urban neighborhoods, excellent public transport, diverse dining and shopping with hiking trails, beaches and traditional festivals. Housing can be expensive, especially near major hotel districts, so many workers share apartments or live farther from the center. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, a genuine job offer and market salary conditions. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong identity card and health insurance or medical coverage.
