Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, technology and healthcare. Popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah provide resort-based work, although larger cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru offer a wider range of careers. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in tourism. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to relaxed coastal communities; food is affordable and public transport is strongest in major cities. Foreign nationals normally require an employer-sponsored employment pass or other approved work authorisation before starting work. Employers usually handle much of the application process, and requirements depend on nationality, salary and position. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical cover and contract terms before relocating. Malaysia’s tropical climate, religious diversity and regional differences are important factors when choosing a location.
