Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in technology, data centers, manufacturing, engineering, logistics and renewable energy, especially around Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and regional industrial areas. Work culture values punctuality, preparation, teamwork and respect for hierarchy, although international companies often use more flexible management styles. Daily life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, healthcare and varied food; housing and commuting costs are higher in major cities. Japan’s main islands—Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku—offer different climates and lifestyles, while Okinawa provides a warmer, island-oriented setting. Foreign hires normally need an appropriate work visa, commonly sponsored by the employer, with qualifications and documentation verified before arrival. Relocating employees should budget for deposits, transport, utilities and initial accommodation, and should learn basic Japanese for administration and community life.
