Company Info

Amazon is a global technology and commerce company best known for its online retail marketplace, cloud computing platform AWS, logistics network, digital entertainment services, and consumer devices. Founded in 1994, the company operates worldwide and employs people across engineering, operations, technology, corporate, and fulfilment functions. Its data centre engineering teams design, build, and maintain the physical infrastructure that supports AWS and other Amazon services. These facilities require highly reliable electrical, mechanical, cooling, fire-protection, and building systems. In Ireland, Amazon has a significant presence, including corporate, technology, cloud, and operations activities. The company generally offers technically challenging work, international collaboration, and opportunities to contribute to large-scale infrastructure projects. Benefits and compensation vary by position, level, and location, and may include salary, equity, bonuses, healthcare, pension contributions, and other employee programmes.

Destination Guide

Ireland offers strong opportunities in technology, engineering, pharmaceuticals, finance, construction, renewable energy, and data-centre infrastructure, particularly around Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Limerick. Irish workplaces are generally collaborative, informal, and internationally oriented, with English as the main working language. Life combines vibrant cities, historic towns, coastal scenery, music, sport, and a strong social culture. Housing, especially in Dublin, can be expensive and competitive, so securing accommodation should be planned early. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens can work without an employment permit. Most non-EU nationals need an employment permit, commonly a Critical Skills Employment Permit for specialised engineering roles, followed by immigration registration after arrival. Relocating workers should budget for rent, deposits, transport, utilities, healthcare arrangements, and tax registration. Public transport is better in major cities, while a car can be useful in suburban or rural areas.
