Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands. Jakarta, on Java, is the country's main business center and offers the broadest opportunities in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, finance and multinational operations. Bali has strong tourism, hospitality and digital-work communities, while Batam, Sumatra and Kalimantan offer opportunities in manufacturing, energy, logistics and natural resources. Indonesian culture values hospitality, respect for hierarchy, family and community; workplaces often combine formal professionalism with relationship building. Jakarta provides extensive services but has heavy traffic, a fast pace and higher living costs. English is common in multinational companies, while Indonesian is essential for daily life. Most foreign employees require an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit, with immigration and employment approvals arranged before starting work. Relocation packages may cover housing, insurance, schooling and tax support. Healthcare and international schools are concentrated in major cities.
