Destination Guide

Taiwan offers strong opportunities in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, technology, manufacturing, finance, and education, particularly in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. The culture blends Chinese traditions with Japanese and global influences, and people generally value politeness, family, education, and community. Life is convenient, with excellent public transport, night markets, affordable food, mountains, beaches, and lively cities. Mandarin is useful for daily life, although multinational companies often use English at work. Foreign professionals typically need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate employment or resident visa; requirements vary by nationality, role, salary, and qualifications. Relocating usually involves securing a job offer, arranging housing, obtaining health insurance, and registering locally. Taiwan is generally safe and welcoming, but newcomers should prepare for humid summers, typhoons, earthquakes, and the higher housing costs found in central Taipei.
