Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, engineering, technology, healthcare, manufacturing, and research, especially around Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kobe, and Fujisawa. Workplace culture generally values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful attention to quality, although international companies often use English and have more flexible practices. Japan provides excellent public transport, reliable services, safe neighborhoods, and convenient urban living, but housing and commuting costs can be high near major cities. Foreign professionals normally need an appropriate work status, such as an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa or a Highly Skilled Professional visa. Employers commonly sponsor the application, while applicants provide qualifications, employment documents, and passport information. Before relocating, arrange housing, residence registration, health insurance, a bank account, and a phone plan. Learning basic Japanese greatly helps with daily life, administration, and building workplace relationships.
