Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities in banking, fintech, technology, natural resources, property, manufacturing, tourism and consumer businesses. Jakarta, on Java, is the main financial and corporate hub and offers the widest range of professional roles, although traffic and living costs are high. Bali provides a relaxed international lifestyle and strong tourism, hospitality and remote-business communities, but fewer senior banking positions. Java generally has the strongest infrastructure and employment market; Sumatra and Kalimantan are important for plantations, energy and mining, while Sulawesi is growing in industry and resources. Indonesian culture values hospitality, family, respect for seniority and relationship building. Food, housing and domestic travel can be relatively affordable, though standards vary by location. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit and a limited-stay KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Research local regulations, healthcare, schooling and housing before relocating.
