Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, finance, manufacturing, tourism, and customer operations. Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley are the main employment centres, while Penang and Johor also provide strong prospects. Malaysian workplace culture is generally respectful, multicultural, hierarchical, and team-oriented; English is widely used in corporate settings, alongside Malay and Mandarin. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. The country offers excellent food, beaches, rainforests, and islands such as Langkawi, Penang, and Tioman. Foreign professionals normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer, with approval linked to qualifications, salary, and role requirements. Before relocating, review housing, healthcare, transport, taxes, schooling, and dependent-pass rules. Public transport is convenient in major cities, while driving is useful outside them.
