Destination Guide

Australia offers hospitality opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafés, bars and event venues, especially in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, regional tourism areas and Tasmania. The culture is generally informal, friendly and multicultural, while workplaces value punctuality, teamwork, direct communication and responsible service. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to quieter coastal or regional communities, with strong outdoor, beach and nature activities. Employees should budget for relatively high housing, transport and daily living costs. Australian citizens and permanent residents can work without restriction. Temporary options include Working Holiday visas for eligible passport holders, employer-sponsored visas and student visas with work limits. Check current conditions through the Australian Department of Home Affairs because eligibility and permitted hours change. Relocating usually requires a tax file number, Australian bank account, suitable accommodation and health insurance. RSA certification is commonly required for alcohol service, and hospitality workers should confirm award rates and penalty entitlements.
