Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in technology consulting, shared services, software, finance, manufacturing and digital operations, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. For an island lifestyle, Penang combines strong technology and business activity with heritage neighborhoods, beaches and excellent food. Langkawi is quieter and tourism-focused, while Sabah and Sarawak offer nature, lower-density living and growing regional economies. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional settings. Living costs are generally moderate, though Kuala Lumpur and central Penang are more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and the role. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules before relocating. Healthcare, transport and internet access are good in major urban areas.
