Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang, Johor and, increasingly, Sabah and Sarawak. SAP consulting, cloud, software engineering, cybersecurity, shared services and business process roles are common, with Kuala Lumpur being the main corporate hub. The country combines modern city life with beaches, rainforests, diverse food and a multicultural society influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions. Living costs are moderate compared with many major international cities, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. English is widely used in professional settings. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored approval and an Employment Pass before starting work; requirements and salary thresholds can change, so applicants should verify current rules with the employer and Malaysian authorities. Relocation is generally straightforward, but candidates should budget for housing deposits, insurance, transport and initial living expenses.
