Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology consulting, engineering, manufacturing, shared services and digital operations, particularly around Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. Penang is known for electronics and advanced manufacturing, while Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer a slower island or coastal lifestyle and growing tourism, technology and services activity. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate compared with many major Asian cities, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be more expensive. Foreign professionals normally require employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval handled through the relevant Malaysian authorities. Candidates should secure a written offer before relocating, verify visa eligibility, arrange health insurance and budget for housing, transport and deposits. Malaysia's warm climate, food culture and good regional connectivity make it attractive for expatriates.
