Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, with growing demand for data engineering, cloud, cybersecurity and software skills. Penang is an island and mainland technology hub known for electronics, manufacturing and a relaxed lifestyle, while Langkawi offers a quieter island setting but fewer specialist technology roles. Malaysia has a multicultural society, excellent food, affordable services and a mix of modern cities, beaches and rainforests. Kuala Lumpur usually provides the widest employment options, international schools and transport links, though housing costs are higher. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the hiring company handling much of the application process. Applicants should confirm eligibility, salary thresholds and documentation with the employer or Malaysian authorities. English is widely used in business, and learning basic Malay can make daily life easier. Relocation budgets should include housing deposits, healthcare, insurance and visa-related costs.
