Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang, and Johor, with jobs in software development, cloud engineering, consulting, shared services, and cybersecurity. For an island lifestyle, Penang is the most practical choice: it has a growing technology sector, excellent food, heritage areas, beaches, and a large expatriate community. Langkawi offers a quieter, resort-oriented lifestyle but fewer professional technology roles. Sabah and Sarawak provide attractive nature, lower-density living, and emerging business opportunities, though specialist jobs are more limited. Malaysian culture is multicultural, welcoming, and shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions. Living costs are moderate, while traffic and hot, humid weather require adjustment. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application. Bring certified qualifications, allow time for immigration processing, and check healthcare, housing, tax, and dependent-pass requirements before relocating.
