Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology and consulting opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and other regional hubs, while island destinations such as Penang, Langkawi and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide a slower lifestyle. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business. Urban life offers modern transport, shopping and varied food, while island living brings beaches, outdoor activities and a lower-pressure pace, although specialist jobs are fewer. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass before starting work; dependants may require separate passes. Relocating employees should budget for accommodation, healthcare, transport and initial deposits. Kuala Lumpur is the main base for corporate roles, while Penang has a growing technology and manufacturing sector. Check current immigration rules and regional salary conditions before moving.
