Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, tourism, IT, engineering, finance, logistics, healthcare, education, and business services. Colombo and nearby areas provide the widest range of professional jobs, while Kandy, Galle, Katunayake, and regional industrial zones also have growing employment. The island has a warm climate, scenic beaches, mountains, wildlife, and a relaxed lifestyle, although traffic and public transport can be challenging in major cities. Sri Lankan culture is diverse, shaped by Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial traditions; respect for religious customs and conservative workplace etiquette is important. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment or residence visa before working, and tourist visas do not permit employment. Employers commonly assist with immigration paperwork, contracts, and relocation guidance. Housing, international schools, private healthcare, and expatriate communities are most accessible around Colombo, though living costs are generally lower outside the capital.
