Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, engineering, tourism, logistics, finance, healthcare, and education. Colombo and nearby industrial zones provide the widest range of professional roles, while Kandy, Galle, and regional towns offer opportunities in tourism, services, and manufacturing. The culture is diverse and generally welcoming, with Sinhala, Tamil, and English widely used in workplaces to varying degrees. Living costs are moderate, although Colombo is more expensive than smaller cities. The island has tropical weather, beaches, mountains, wildlife, and strong public transport links, though traffic can be busy. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support before working. Interns should confirm whether placements are open to international applicants, clarify accommodation and insurance, and check current immigration requirements. Local salaries may be modest, so relocation packages should be discussed in advance.
