Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, finance, information technology, tourism, logistics, engineering, healthcare, education, and business services. Colombo and nearby areas have the broadest employment market, while industrial zones and tourism centres provide additional roles. The culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences, with strong traditions of hospitality, family life, festivals, and religious diversity. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Colombo accommodation and imported goods can be expensive. The island provides beaches, mountains, wildlife parks, historic cities, and good year-round travel options. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence permission arranged with employer support; tourist status does not permit employment. Relocating workers should confirm sponsorship, tax, healthcare, accommodation, and work-authorisation requirements before arrival. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
