Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel manufacturing, finance shared services, information technology, tourism, logistics, engineering and business operations. Colombo and nearby areas provide the broadest professional market, while major manufacturing locations offer roles in production and supply chain. The culture combines South Asian traditions with strong community values, hospitality and religious diversity. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many international cities, although Colombo housing can be comparatively expensive. The island has tropical beaches, hill-country scenery, wildlife parks and historic cities, with generally warm weather and reliable domestic transport. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa or residence approval before starting work; tourist visas do not permit employment. Applicants should confirm current immigration rules, documentation, medical requirements and dependants’ arrangements with the employer and Sri Lankan authorities. Relocation planning should include housing, healthcare, banking, taxation and local transport.
